The BYD ETP3 is a small, value-focused panel van designed to be powered by batteries from the get-go. Roughly the same length as a Citroen e-Berlingo, but narrower and taller, it’s designed to excel in urban environments with its agile size and nippy performance.
Key highlights
The BYD ETP3 is the perfect van for city-based businesses or urban delivery fleets. With a small footprint but a respectable 780kg payload and 3.5m3 carrying capacity, the ETP3 competes well with European rivals but with very affordable leasing costs and low total cost of ownership.
Only available in one body size right now, the ETP3 seats two in comfort. Its relatively light weight makes it efficient and cheap to run, while standard equipment includes automatic headlights and a wear-resistant anti-slip aluminium floor. BYD also claims it’s been built to passenger car safety standards.
Performance and Range
The BYD ETP 3 promises a range of 145 miles on the WLTP cycle, which increases to up to 171 miles with city driving maximising regenerative braking.
Although that’ll be sufficient for many urban deliveries, 50kW DC fast charging can complete a 30-80% charge of the battery pack in around half an hour. BYD’s Blade battery also avoids use of rare earth elements such as nickel and cobalt, making it better for the environment.
The top speed is restricted to 62mph, but with 134bhp it gets there swiftly and is nippy around town, with a 0-62mph time of 13 seconds.
