Dacia has built a global reputation for providing affordable yet dependable motoring for the masses. Starting off as a no-frills budget brand, its models have become more sophisticated and well-equipped while still retaining an ultra-low leasing cost. And now Dacia sells a seriously affordable electric car.
Key highlights
Dacia found global appeal in the 21st century, but it was founded in Romania way back in 1966 with an objective to produce modern and reliable cars that were affordable for the Romanian population.
It's first models were effectively updated versions of old produced under licence, but because they were the first cars ever produced in communist Romania, demand was high and Dacia soon made cars sold across the Eastern Bloc. This relationship with Renault continued until 1999 when Dacia became the official third brand of the Renault Group.
Under Renault ownership Dacia flourished, developing a range of models such as the Logan saloon, Sandero small car and the Duster 4x4. Sales exploded across not just central and eastern Europe but now western Europe, which had cottoned on to the brand’s low-cost appeal.
Dacia finally sold cars in the UK in 2013, with the Sandero becoming Britain’s cheapest new car. Well over 200,000 Dacias have since been sold in the UK, and over eight million have been delivered to customers worldwide.
Dacia & EVs
Dacia stayed away from electric cars for many years, waiting until the technology developed to fit in with its ethos of maximum affordability. The Dacia Spring certainly offers that as one of the cheapest new electric cars money can buy.
Top models
The Dacia Spring is a compact, urban-focused city car that’s both cheap to lease and to run, with very low insurance costs and high efficiency. Dacia’s thinking is that it offers all the car that its customers need and nothing they don’t.
Despite its focus on keeping costs as low as possible, Dacia has ensured the Spring has space for four and a decent boot. It also comes with all of the safety equipment modern buyers expect including multiple airbags, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition.
You even get a good level of creature comforts including air-conditioning and cruise control, while Extreme models feature a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav. Although performance is modest, the Spring will manage a range of up to 137 miles on a charge.

The small yet perfectly former Dacia Spring brings electric motoring to the masses as one of the cheapest electric cars on sale. It’s finally come to the UK and is available to lease now with some seriously affordable deals.
Leasing a Dacia model is a highly flexible and affordable way to get you into an already low-priced electric car. Dacia has become the go-to brand for value in many countries across the world, with its models often being the cheapest in their categories. Dacia electric models available to lease still offer the essential creature comforts and safety technology despite the incredible value-for-money.
GRIDSERVE Car Leasing also has a full range of brilliant benefits, which include 100 trees planted for every lease deal, three months of free charging across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, expert customer care, delivery included in the price and so much more. With your Net Zero Lease, you can rest assured that you鈥檙e doing your part to help the planet.
At the time of writing there is only one Dacia electric car available to lease with GRIDSERVE. The Dacia Spring is officially one of the cheapest new EVs on the market, and spreading the cost by leasing is a great choice. We expect more Dacia electric cars to arrive at a later date
As one of the cheapest electric cars available anywhere, the Dacia Spring is a very popular car to lease for city or town dwellers, or those who don鈥檛 often travel long distances. Dacia鈥檚 no-nonsense approach makes it an impressively cheap alternative to models from MG, BYD and GWM Ora.
Dacia鈥檚 Spring has a small battery relative to other electric cars, but its low weight, simple design and lack of unnecessary features makes it incredibly efficient at using the power. The greatest range the Spring offers is up to 137 miles on a single charge, which is plenty for the average commute along with town driving or the school run - while it鈥檒l manage over 180 miles in city driving. There are longer range electric cars to lease if you need to take long trips on a regular basis, however.
The prices of these Dacia EV lease deals vary over time depending on a range of factors, so it鈥檚 impossible to say that one particular model will remain the cheapest forever. However, of the available options, it鈥檚 likely that the Expression 45 will usually be the most affordable choice.
Leasing a Dacia for business use is a great idea if you want to keep your costs down. While the Spring might not work for long-distance business drivers, it鈥檒l be perfect if you do lots of local trips or need a fleet of urban-focused electric cars that can be incredibly cheap to run and easy to drive.
Dacia EV leasing offers a wide range of advantages vs buying the car outright, which include much lower upfront costs, the opportunity to switch or upgrade your vehicle every couple of years, the monthly payments being fixed for the duration of the agreement, and no depreciation concerns as you鈥檒l not be the owner of the vehicle.聽
There are some scenarios when buying may suit your needs more, but leasing is a phenomenal option.
