Looking for a sporty electric car that doesn’t break the bank, and squeezes into tight spaces? We reckon you’ll like the new Abarth 500e. Taking the funky Fiat 500e and giving it a sporty makeover,, the Abarth 500e is a great way of reducing emissions while also putting a smile on your face.
Key highlights of the Abarth 500
In recent years Abarth - the performance arm of Fiat - has been making a name for itself by turning stylish and sensible Fiat 500s into racy, exciting pocket rockets. And now it’s moved into the electric age with the Abarth 500e.
Based on the popular Fiat 500e, the Abarth version adds visual aggression with a sporty body kit, enlarged bumpers and bigger wheels, plus a series of bold colour options. Inside you’ll find new figure-hugging sports seats, lashings of Alcantara trim and racy detailing. It’ll certainly cut a dash on city streets. Oh, and it’s also available as a neat convertible.
Abarth 500 performance and range
Abarth’s spicier 500e isn’t just about the look, however. Power has been boosted up to 150bhp to give the Abarth a 0-62mph time of seven seconds dead. Meanwhile, handling is improved with chunkier tyres and sports suspension to make it agile in and out of town.
That’s the speed sorted, but Abarth has also added some aural thrills with a sound generator. With one speaker inside and one outside the car that replicate the rorty sound of the old petrol Abarth 500, the new car retains a real sense of fun. But don’t worry, you can turn it off if it’s not your thing.
The Abarth 500e’s claimed WLTP range is from 150-164 miles depending on spec and whether you go for the hard top or cabrio version, with an estimated real-world range of 139 miles. Thanks to a modest battery size a 10-80% charge can be completed in around 25 minutes.
