Key highlights of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz
Although the Volkswagen ID.Buzz is also sold as a van (the ), it’s a proper car underneath, sharing a similar base and technology with the brand’s smaller EVs.
That means it’s comfortable at motorway speeds, while being easy to drive in town thanks to great visibility, light steering and technology to aid parking. There are five roomy seats, sliding doors, plenty of practical storage and an absurdly generous boot. And yet at 4.7 metres long, it’s no bigger than an estate car.
Two generously-equipped trim levels called Life and Style are available, while a special 1st Edition model is also available for early adopters. Volkswagen will launch other versions with longer bodies and more seats, bigger batteries and more powerful motors in the coming years. There’s even a camper version on the horizon.
Volkswagen ID.Buzz performance and range
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is available from launch with a 77kWh battery and single rear-mounted 201bhp motor. Performance is ample rather than thrilling, but a 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds is plenty for a large family vehicle. A range of up to 258 miles is also very competitive for an electric MPV.
Sitting at the top of Volkswagen’s electric range, the ID.Buzz also offers some of the fastest charging speeds - up to 175kW using a suitable DC rapid charger. That’s sufficient for a 10-80% charge in just 30 minutes.
