Drag race: BMW M5 vs Audi RS6 vs Porsche Panamera

June 14, 2025 by

The Audi RS6 is dead, for now at least. The monstrous V8-powered estate car has been starting to show its age recently with the introduction of some insanely powerful hybrid performance cars, but I still reckon it can hold its own – even without any electrical assistance.

To find out, I’ve lined up the Audi RS6 performance against a BMW M5 Touring and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Both of these cars are a lot more powerful than the Audi, but they’re also much heavier thanks to their hybrid gubbins. Let’s take a look at the stats.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Á«»¨Ö±²¥. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Audi RS6 Performance

The Audi RS6 Performance has a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 630hp and 830Nm of torque, and this is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system.

It’s the lightest car here, but it still tips the scales at 2,075kg so it’s not exactly a featherweight. When it was new this car would cost you £120,195, but it went off sale last year. You can still pick up a used Audi RS6 Avant through Á«»¨Ö±²¥ though, with prices starting from around £80,000.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

From the lightest car here we now come to the most powerful. Under the Porsche’s bonnet is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is paired with an electric motor. Combined they make 782hp and 1,000Nm of torque, and the Panamera also has all-wheel drive.

It’s almost exactly 300kg heavier than the Audi though, weighing in at 2,365kg. It’s also extraordinarily expensive. The Turbo S E-Hybrid starts from £175,000, but the one we have here costs an eye-watering £195,000.

BMW M5 Touring

Finally we have the BMW M5 Touring, the heaviest car here at a whopping 2,475kg. To shift all this weight up the drag strip it has a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor boosting it to 727hp and 1,000Nm of torque.

This is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and it costs from £117,000. If you prefer not to fork out this sort of money in one lump, you can lease an M5 Touring for just over £1,500 per month through Á«»¨Ö±²¥.

What will happen?

In theory, the Porsche Panamera should walk this. It’s the most powerful by far, and it’s 100kg lighter than the BMW. However, the Audi RS6 has an excellent launch control system and a lot less weight to haul down the quarter mile, so it could still be in with a shout.

Make sure you watch the video to find out how this race pans out.
