Tuned Nissan Skyline GT-R drag race: four generations of Godzilla go head-to-head

August 09, 2025 by

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a legend. For decades it’s been putting high-end supercars to shame, and tuners love this Japanese performance icon.

I’ve managed to get the R32, R33 and R34 Skyline GT-R together for a drag race, along with the latest R35 Nissan GT-R, but none of these cars are standard. They’ve all been tuned to produce 1,000hp.

I’m going to find out which is the fastest, as well as race them against something a bit more exotic.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Á«»¨Ö±²¥. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Each of the Skylines is powered by the legendary RB26 engine, a 2.6-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six which was developed for racing. On paper, they all produced 280hp when new, thanks to a gentleman’s agreement in ‘90s Japan, but in reality they all kicked out between 300hp and 340hp. Four-wheel drive was standard as well.

But these cars have been heavily modified with new engine internals, uprated turbochargers and significant tuning so they all produce around 1,000hp.

The latest Nissan GT-R is the only car here not fitted with the RB26. It has a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6, and as standard it puts out 600hp. Like the other cars though, this one is putting out 1,000hp thanks to some mods.

So these cars should be able to put down a seriously impressive quarter-mile time, but with tuned cars there’s always the risk that one of them will go pop.

If you want to see which one wins, as well as which supercar I’ll be putting them up against, check out this week’s video!
