Citroen C4 (2011-2018) interior
While听the first-generation C4 had a funky interior with digital readouts and a steering wheel with a static centre hub, the new car鈥檚 cabin is altogether more conservative.
Style
The design of the dashboard might not be as appealing as the old C4 鈥 it had a digital speedo sprouting from its top 鈥 but the C4鈥檚 interior is still a pleasant enough place to spend time in and there are some nods to the firm鈥檚 quirky heritage such as the instrument binnacle that lights up in a variety of colours and the mixture of analogue and digital dials. It can鈥檛 match a Golf鈥檚 logical layout, though.
The Golf is also the clear winner when it comes to build quality, where the VW displays a level of fit, finish and material quality that the C4 can only dream of 鈥 even if the Citroen is vastly improved next to its ancestors.
Given how ground-breaking other Citroens have been - and continue to be - it's a real disappointment to see the company come up with a cabin that is so instantly forgettable

Infotainment
The 拢460听infotainment system only comes standard on top-of-the-range models and includes live traffic information, European mapping and a Bluetooth phone connection. Top of the range models are the only ones to be offered with MirrorScreen 鈥 to replicate the display of your smartphone 鈥 but you鈥檒l have to pay another 拢590 to get this kit fitted.
No matter which system you choose, the Citroen鈥檚 infotainment screen doesn鈥檛 replace as many conventional buttons as it would in a Golf, making the dashboard听design seem a little messier as a result.
