The entry-level model in the #1 lineup, Pure still comes equipped with loads of standard kit. LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, ISOFIX child seat points on the passenger and rear seats, a heated steering wheel all make the Smart easy to live with.

Pro is the entry-level trim for the Smart #1, but it's still quite posh - with a fixed glass roof, cool-looking three-spoke alloy wheels, LED headlights and the same 12.8-inch infotainment screen as other versions.

Specification levels are good from the off from Smart, with high-end equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, 360-degree camera and powered tailgate all appearing on the Pro+ model. You'll also find your #1 equipped with adaptive cruise control, LED lights and a variety of driver assistance systems.

The Premium trim level builds on the strong start of the entry Pro+ model with the likes of head-up display, Beats sound system, Matrix LED headlights and automatic parking assistant all added. It also gets improved battery technology, which lifts the official range figure by 13 miles to 273.

The high-performance Smart #1, the Brabus gets a pile of design tweaks including new bonnet vents, 19-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara steering wheel and Brabus design stitching to make sure you know this is the quick one. And by quick, we mean 0-62mph in under four seconds, thanks to a second motor taking power to 428hp compared with the regular model's already handy 272hp.
