Why should you consider the Porsche Taycan?
The Taycan was Porsche’s first electric car, but it instantly became one of the best on the market. With a modern design, incredible handling and all the quality we’ve come to expect from premium brand Porsche, it’s a brilliant four-door saloon that just so happens to be powered by electricity.
You can choose from a wide range of different battery-and-motor combinations, but even the base models get around 400hp and an official range of around 270 miles. Opt for bigger battery options and the range will grow, but that isn’t the most impressive thing about the Taycan.

The cabin might be a bit bland, but the driving experience is the polar opposite, with staggering road manners inherited from Porsche’s other sports cars. On a good country road, the Taycan is outstanding, yet it’s still more supple than you might expect on the motorway, especially in its less powerful forms. And with so many versions to choose from, you’ll have no trouble finding the Taycan for you.

Although the brand-new Taycan starts at around £86,500, you can pick up a used bargain on Á«»¨Ö±²¥ for less than £30,000. That’s a saving of almost £60,000. And don’t go thinking you’re stuck with a base model for that money, either. That pays for a 2021 car with the optional 93.4kWh Performance Battery Plus, and a 476hp electric motor.
Porsche Taycan alternatives
- Audi e-tron GT: Futuristic on the outside and comfortable inside, but real-world range isn’t great.
- Tesla Model S: The Tesla is king in terms of range and straight-line speed, but build quality is an issue.
- Lotus Emeya: Glorious inside and out, the Emeya is a cool saloon, but it’s inefficient and the boot is small.
