We鈥檝e been driving the new Polestar 4 to find out if this spaceship-esque electric car has what it takes to stand out in a crowded market
If you鈥檙e on the hunt for a sleek, high-tech, comfortable electric car that turns heads, the Polestar 4 is worth a serious look. This SUV-coupe from the Swedish brand might just be one of the coolest cars out there, but is it all style and no substance?

New Polestar 4 exterior design
The Polestar 4 is all about futuristic styling, and the lack of a rear window is arguably its most daring design feature. The car ditches the rear glass entirely, opting instead for a rearview camera. Sure, you lose the traditional rearward view, but what you gain is a swooping roofline that looks like it was stolen from a sci-fi movie. It definitely stands out. Throw in flush door handles, a glowing Polestar badge, and dark cladding, and you鈥檝e got a car that looks like it鈥檚 here to steal the show.
New Polestar 4 interior and infotainment
Inside, the Polestar 4 is minimalist without feeling empty. It鈥檚 a clean, modern, and high-tech cabin that feels more like a spaceship than a car. The 15.4-inch touchscreen is the star of the show, running Google software, and it鈥檚 really easy to use. The only downside? Nearly everything is controlled via the touchscreen, from adjusting the mirrors to opening the glovebox.
Despite the tech-heavy setup, it鈥檚 still a properly comfy cabin. The seats are lovely, with options for heated, ventilated, and massaging functions. And with a huge panoramic sunroof, it feels like you鈥檙e driving in the open air, even when it鈥檚 pouring down outside.
New Polestar 4 practicality
If you鈥檙e expecting a cavernous boot, you might be disappointed. The Polestar 4鈥檚 boot is 526 litres鈥攑lenty of room for your weekly shopping and a few suitcases, but not quite as generous as alternatives like the Tesla Model Y. The sloping roofline impacts practicality a bit, but rear-seat passengers won鈥檛 complain. Even tall folk can stretch out without smacking their heads on the ceiling. Plus, there鈥檚 a nifty 15-litre frunk for your charging cables and other small items.
Polestar 4 Electric motors and range
The Polestar 4 touts some impressive stats. With a range of up to 376 miles on the Long Range model, it comfortably competes with cars like the Tesla Model Y and BMW iX, and we managed to get 336 miles from it in a range test where we drove it until it died. And if you鈥檙e into performance, the 3.8-second 0-62mph sprint of the Performance AWD model will satisfy your need for speed. Add in a fast charging time (30 minutes to go from 10-80% on a 200kW DC charger), and the Polestar 4 is a very tempting proposition.
Driving the new Polestar 4
That鈥檚 all the numbers out of the way, do what鈥檚 the Polestar 4 like out on the road? Well it鈥檚 most at-home on long-distance motorway drives.
This is a supremely comfortable cruiser, with the adaptive cruise control taking the strain out of motorway slogs and the fabulous seats keeping the backache at bay. It鈥檚 really quiet inside as well, and the suspension irons out bumps in the road really well.
One annoying thing is that digital rear-view mirror which replaces the rear window. You have to adjust your eyes every time you glance up at it, which can give you a bit of a headache after a while.
Get on on a twisty road and this big, bulky SUV handles itself quite well. It鈥檚 not quite as fun or direct as a Porsche Macan EV, but there鈥檚 very little body roll and you still have plenty of confidence to push on. It鈥檚 just a lovely, comfortable thing to cruise around in.
Final verdict: an electric SUV with substance to back up the style
The new Polestar 4 is a fantastic electric car which is properly comfortable, lovely to sit in and packed with kit. It may not have a very big boot, and some of the tech can be frustrating at times, but there鈥檚 loads of passenger space and it turns heads wherever it goes. It is well worth adding to your shortlist.
