Electric cars are easy and relaxing to drive around town, but I never thought I’d drive one which was a riot on track. That was until I got behind the wheel of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N for the first time.

I spent a day thrashing this family-friendly SUV around Silverstone, and I was left gobsmacked at how good it was. It’s not quite as engaging as a BMW M2, but it’s not far off.

Used Hyundai Ioniq 5 N deals

I had a quick look on Á«»¨Ö±²¥ and found a used Hyundai Ioniq 5 N for just under £50,000. That’s a saving of over £15,000 on a car which is less than a year old. It’s even finished in the right colour – Performance Blue.

At £50,000 this is more than £6,000 cheaper than a Kia EV6 GT – a car which shares a lot of mechanical bits with the Ioniq 5 N but isn’t as much fun to drive. It’s also around £10,000 less than a Tesla Model 3 Performance, which the by the slimmest of margins.

Why should you buy a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N?

Hyundai has managed to build a 2.2-tonne electric SUV which is actually fun to drive, and it’s done this by mimicking a petrol-engined car. It has fake gearshifts programmed in which feel pretty much real, and this just makes it feel more engaging than most other EVs.

I really enjoyed driving it on track, but it’s also easy to live with everyday thanks to the roomy back seats and big boot. You also can’t ignore the fact that it looks epic with its beefed-up styling.

The suspension does a great job of hiding the weight, although it does still feel heavy if you really push it on track. If you’re looking to make the switch to an electric car for the tax and fuel savings, but still want to have fun, this is the SUV for you.
