Car changing is a big deal
Porsche is working on an all-electric version of the Cayenne to sit above the new Macan EV, and we鈥檝e spotted it out and about during development testing.
- New Porsche Cayenne EV spotted
- Electric SUV to join the petrol-powered model
- Similar styling to the current Cayenne
- Likely to share parts with Macan
- Full reveal expected in 2025
This is the new Porsche Cayenne EV, an all-electric version of the brand鈥檚 popular large SUV which will provide an alternative to the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV. It鈥檒l share some parts under the skin with the Macan, albeit with a few changes.
The Cayenne EV has also been spotted testing by our spy photographers in coupe form, giving you a glimpse at some of the styling details. A reveal of this new EV is likely to come before the end of 2025.
New Porsche Cayenne EV design
Don鈥檛 expect any radical design changes for this electric Cayenne compared to the petrol-powered one. The petrol version was updated in late 2023, and these spy shots reveal that a lot of the styling details will be pretty similar.

Up front you can see similar rectangular headlights to the Macan, and the front bumper is covered up by camouflage. The fact that there are no holes cut in it though suggests that it鈥檒l be smoothed over for better aerodynamics.

This is the coupe version of the Cayenne, so it has a sporty sloping roofline. A more traditional SUV version will also be available. At the rear, you can just about make out the full-width light bar which runs across the tailgate, which is very similar to today鈥檚 Cayenne.
New Porsche Cayenne motors and batteries
Porsche has already confirmed that the new Cayenne EV will be based on something called the PPE. This has nothing to do with face masks or high-vis jackets, it stands for Platform Premium Electric.

In short, the PPE is the same collection of parts which you鈥檒l find in the Macan EV and the Audi Q6 e-tron 鈥 however Porsche say that it鈥檒l be a 鈥渃omprehensive further development of the platform鈥.

So what does this mean? Well you could see a slightly larger battery pack than the 100kWh one you get in the Macan to make up for the added weight of this bigger car. The Macan can manage up to 381 miles on a charge in single-motor form, however the Cayenne may be able to improve on this with a few tweaks to boost efficiency.

As for performance, the Macan EV has 639hp if you go for the Turbo version, however Volkswagen Group has confirmed in the past that this collection of parts is capable of producing a lot more than this. Up to 800hp could be possible in flagship versions, however you鈥檒l have to wait for the official reveal to find out exactly how fast this EV is.
When can I buy the new Porsche Cayenne EV?
Porsche has confirmed that the Cayenne EV will be available 鈥渋n the middle of the decade鈥, meaning you can expect to see a full reveal in 2025. There are millions of test miles to complete before then though, so you鈥檒l have to make do with the current petrol-powered Cayenne for now 鈥 or check out other electric SUVs like the BMW iX or the Audi Q6 e-tron.
Speaking of the current Cayenne, it鈥檒l be sold alongside the electric version with petrol and hybrid engines up to and beyond 2030, with the V8 being further refined to meet ever more stringent emissions regulations.
